Day 29--Post-grad fashion!

Today's entry is all about post-grad fashion.  I stumbled upon this fairy godmother website last night all about post-grad style called http://www.polyvore.com/lawyer/collection?id=216178 .  This site features fashion collages for every occasion, an option to buy the clothes featured, a section to ask fashion/style questions (like which gel eyeliner is best, what to wear to this-or-that event), plus a section about interior design.  Seriously check this website out.

The fashion collages shown below are all items I wish I owned for my first post-college job  =)

Post-grad fashion is a challenging thing!

I realized that I needed to actually *think* about how I present myself and that pretty much every day is a day to network and have my game face on. What I ended up doing was think about the stuff I need to accomplish each day and how I want people to think about me. I wanted to look serious and confident, a little edgy as well. So I put a few streaks of black in my hair and drew out a costume plot for myself.

I pretty much wear the same thing every day now: skinny jeans in medium blue or black; a button-up shirt in navy, purple or black; oxfords; a black single-button jacket with 3/4 sleeves and depending on the weather, maybe a scarf. I feel much more polished having this 'uniform' but now it's gotten to the point where I've forgotten how to dress up when I go out for fun! Oh well.

Good luck figuring out your image! :)

Well I already commented on your fb status, but you are down the right track! :) Love the site, thanks for sharing! Interviews that I've done in the past two years (and got every single job btw) I wore short heeled black pointed toe shoes, black slacks or skirt (I usually try to wear a skirt), and a nice button up top. I need to start adding a blazer to that too. Actually I need to update all my two year old wardrobe and buy some brand names/good quality so that it can last longer :)

Sarah, I really love how you called it a costume. Sometimes growing up does feel like Halloween, masquerading as an adult. I like the look you described, as it's still youthful, but beyond college and a little artsy. I think you hit a good point that a general plot of clothes is what I should work on vs individual items. Truth be told, I need help with style overall.

Saher, I'm definitely looking for that type of shoe. I read once that shorties should always wear points to seem taller (though I like the more rounded look, personally). I've really enjoyed that convo on facebook about skirts. I had no idea so many of you wore skirts to interviews! Good luck updating your wardrobe. That's definitely one of my goals over this first post-grad year.
